Village Board digs into highway budget

MILLBROOK — Despite some of the worst winter months on record, the village of Millbrook Public Works budget for 2014-15 shows no great increase in expenditures after the village budget meeting on Monday, March 31.Millbrook Highway Superintendent Bob Collocola reported the major need for the coming year is to replace the 2002 dump truck, sander and plow. The cab and chassis will go to bid and the sander, dump body and plow will cost $27,000.“We will have three trucks purchased in 2008, 2011 and 2014. They’re great to work with,” Collocola declared. Other major expenditures are $11,000 for removal of 15 to 20 trees including stump grinding and $5,000 to clean out catch basins, sweep streets and paint crosswalks.Collocola also plans to replace 300 feet of sidewalks on Elm Drive and on Church Street near Reservoir Drive. His budget also calls for $800 for tree mulch and $750 for a new pressure washer.Other tasks planned for next year include taking down the business signs on the village corners because the posts are rotting, repairing the village garage roof which is leaking and putting new bulbs on Franklin Avenue because the present ones burn out too often. The next budget meeting to review the police and fire/rescue budgets was set to take place on Monday, April 7. The public hearing for the entire budget was set to take place on Tuesday, April 8, at the village’s regular meeting. Both meetings will be covered in next week’s Millerton News.
