Warriors top Bombers in close competition

Pine Plains — The Webutuck High School varsity boys basketball team narrowly defeated Stissing Mountain High School in Pine Plains, 47-46, on Tuesday, Jan. 6.Hunter Coulthard led Webutuck with 18 points, including four shots made from the three-point line. Andrew Thrasher followed Coulthard with 12. Angus Edmundson, Chris Reed, LaShawn Thrasher and Tomas Espinoza-Cruz also scored for Webutuck.Kyle Barton, Henry Roemer, Michael Dam and Tyler Pusiello each scored nine points for Pine Plains.Bombers Seth Richards and Hunter Parks followed with six and four points respectively, and Coach Andrew Makebish said they “did an outstanding job on the boards for Pine Plains.”Webutuck started strong in the first quarter leading Pine Plains 12-8, but fell behind in the second with only four points to the Bombers’ nine, bringing the hosts up 17-16 by the half.Pine Plains maintained its lead through the third quarter with 16 points against Webutuck’s 10, but the Warriors fought back in the last quarter with 21 points to the Bombers’ 13 to reclaim their lead and solidify the victory.

The Mountaineers are the highest seeded team of the four schools remaining in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class S playoff bracket.
