Webutuck athletes honored with spring sports awards

WEBUTUCK — Webutuck Junior/Senior High School held its spring sports awards barbecue dinner on Tuesday, June 7.The ceremony honored students who were on the baseball, softball and track and field teams during the spring season.Coaches handed out awards recognizing the students’ hard work and dedication, but kept the ceremony light with colorful stories about some of the practical jokes the players played on the coaches.The coaches also complimented the students on their flexibility when dealing with the numerous cancellations and postponements throughout the season due to inclement weather.All players received certificates of participation. The Tony Greene award and the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Mr. Baseball, Ms. Softball, Mr. Track and Ms. Track trophies were also awarded.The Tony Greene award, which is given in memory of a Webutuck student athlete who died unexpectedly in 1987, goes to the player with the most enthusiasm and the best ability to rally the team. The award was presented by Tony Greene’s sister, Rebecca Knapp, to Andrew Schultz.MVP awards are given to the player with the best statistics through the season. The Mr./Ms. awards are given to the player with the best sportsmanship, positive attitude and role model behavior.Joe McEnroe was also recognized and honored at the event. Wake Robin public hearing closes

Aradev LLC’s plans to redevelop Wake Robin Inn include four 2,000-square-foot cabins, an event space, a sit-down restaurant and fast-casual counter, a spa, library, lounge, gym and seasonal pool. If approved, guest room numbers would increase from 38 to 57.

LAKEVILLE — The public hearing for the redevelopment of Wake Robin Inn is over. Salisbury Planning and Zoning Commission now has two months to make a decision.

The hearing closed on Tuesday, Sept. 9, after its seventh session.

Following the memorable benefit reading last season of Charles Busch’s Tony-nominated Broadway hit, “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,” the Sharon Playhouse will present a one-night-only staged reading of his riotous comic melodrama “Die Mommie Die!” on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.

The production —a deliciously over-the-top homage to classic Hollywood mid-century thrillers — ­­continues the Playhouse’s artistic partnership with Busch, who reprises his iconic role of the glamorous yet troubled songstress Angela Arden.
