Webutuck BOE starts school year with district appointments

WEBUTUCK — After toasting a smooth start to the 2019-20 school year, the Webutuck Board of Education (BOE) accepted personnel appointments made in the district at its meeting on Monday, Sept. 9.

Webutuck Superintendent of Schools Raymond Castellani spoke highly of how the first day of school went on Wednesday, Sept. 4, as well as how the annual Superintendent’s Conference went on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

As the first day of school was scheduled as a half day, he noted that district employees made use of their time by continuing their positivity training after the students were dismissed. Castellani complimented the staff’s decision and said it served as a reflection of where the district is focused in terms of teaching equity for all.

Under the agenda’s personnel section, the board approved teaching assistant Casey Britton’s resignation, effective on Sunday, Sept. 1. Maria Liveris was appointed to a four-year probationary term to replace Britton as a teaching assistant, starting Tuesday, Sept. 10. Tammy Nethercott was appointed co-chairperson of the Committee on Special Education.

Both Rachel Vallone and Owen Lynch were appointed substitute teachers and substitute teaching assistants while William Watson and Candace Swart were appointed substitute bus drivers. For the 2019-20 school year, Katherine Nethercott was appointed as a modified field hockey coach for Webutuck.
