Week of the Young Child

Children from the Winsted Area Child Care Center paraded down Main Street to Town Hall on Monday, April 11, as part of the Week of the Young Child. According to Kailyn Nadeau, head teacher at the child-care center, the week was started by the National Association of Education of Young Children, which accredits child-care centers nationally. “The week is about advocating for the need of quality early childhood programs,” Nadeau said. “Getting the children out on the streets of Winsted is a nice way to advocate for early childhood education. I think a lot of times early childhood education gets overlooked.” When they reached Town Hall, Mayor Candy Perez greeted the children and read a proclamation officially declaring the Week of the Young Child in Winsted. “Do you know that this Town Hall is also your Town Hall?” Perez told the children. “As you grow older, you should think of this place as yours.”
