William I. ‘Hick’ Hickey

SALISBURY — William I. “Hick” Hickey, 79, died March, 2, 2013, at Noble Horizons. He was the husband of Kathleen “Katie” (Curtiss) Hickey. Bill was born July 22, 1933, in Sharon, the son of the late Dorothy (Hoffman) and William Cullen Hickey.Bill was a truck driver. He worked for the town of Salisbury Highway Department as well as Allyndale Limestone Corporation in North Canaan and Collingwood Trucking in Sheffield, Mass. He was a communicant of Church of St. Mary in Lakeville and served as an altar boy when he was younger. Bill was an avid fisherman, but his greatest pleasure came from driving his motor home, accompanied by his wife, throughout the U.S. including trips to Florida, Arizona, Tennessee and Texas. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his three children, Kim, and her husband, Roy Newman, of Winchester, Conn., Mark, and his wife, Andrea, of Salisbury and Patti, and her husband, Mark, of North Canaan; his six sisters, Joan McBride of Georgia, Donna Porter of South Carolina, Dottie Hurt of Texas, Jill Welch of Sandisfield, Mass., Susan Poglitsch of Salisbury and Debbie Sharkey of Michigan; his two brothers, Jim Hickey of Lakeville and Mike Hickey of South Carolina; his six grandchildren, Cole, Nick, Brendan, Padraic, Amanda and Jeremy; and his six great-grandchildren, Madden, Peyton, Parker, Dylan, Eric and Ava. Bill was predeceased by two brothers, Butch and John “Tick” Hickey.At Bill’s request, there will be no funeral services. Memorial donations may be sent to Noble Horizons, 17 Cobble Road, Salisbury, CT 06068, or to the Marine Corps League Northwest Det. of CT. 042, 25 Locust Hill Road, East Canaan, CT 06024. Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

Developers withdraw application to expand Wake Robin Inn

LAKEVILLE — Aradev LLC has withdrawn its application to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a special permit to redevelop the Wake Robin Inn.

In a letter submitted to P&Z Chair Michael Klemens on the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 17, law outfit Mackey, Butts & Whalen LLP announced its client’s withdrawal.

"What I really feel lucky about is having had the chance to meet and photograph so many people who had a real impact on our lives,” said Christopher Little whose new memoir, “Shooting the Breeze: Memories of a Photojournalist” was just released. The book is as eclectic and colorful as the man himself and offers an intimate look into Little’s globe-trotting career spent behind the lens, capturing some of the most iconic figures, events, and human stories of the past half-century.

In 2021, the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas acquired Little’s photographic archive.
