Works by Robert Andrew Parker

NORFOLK — The work of artist Robert Andrew Parker will be on display at the Norfolk Library for the month of October.

Parker, who is 91 years old and was born in Norfolk, Va., has lived in West Cornwall for many years.

Over the past six decades, his work has been shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

His work has also been shown at galleries in Washington, D.C.; Detroit, Michigan; France and Ireland.

The works on display at the library include etchings of jazz musicians, fellow artists and etchings of dogs in various colorful locales.

“I’ve been creating art for all of my life,” Parker said during the opening of the exhibition at the library on Sunday, Oct. 7. “When I was growing up in the 1930s, I didn’t have television. So I did what I could to entertain myself. Which is why I started drawing.”

Parker said that even with the invention of television, he never stopped creating art.

“I love the Northwest Corner and I’ve been here for many years now,” he said. “This is my third show here at the library; this is a terrific space.”

All art on display at the library is for sale and 25 percent of all sales will be donated to the Norfolk Library Associates, which uses funds for various programs and events.

The library is located at 9 Greenwoods Road. For more information, call 860-542-5075 or go to www.norfolklibrary.org.

Still from "The King of In between"

There is a scene in “The King of In Between,” a documentary about musician Garland Jeffreys, that shows his name as the answer to a question on the TV show “Jeopardy!”

“This moment was the film in a nutshell,” said Claire Jeffreys, the film’s producer and director, and Garland’s wife of 40 years. “Nobody knows the answer,” she continued. “So, you’re cool enough to be a Jeopardy question, but you’re still obscure enough that not one of the contestants even had a glimmer of the answer.”
