‘Crazy’ new novel by local author Judy Marshall

DOVER — Judy Marshall is finding success with her first novel, “Crazy: A True Love Story.” Marshall is a Dover resident; she’s the owner of the former Judy’s Flowers in Wassaic, which has evolved into the eclectic Hamlet Country Store, on Route 22.“It’s heartwarming and heartbreaking,” she said. The novel takes place throughout Dutchess County and follows the lives of a married couple, Julie and Dan. It’s a story of love, infidelity and how Julie overcomes Dan’s indiscretions to forge ahead in their relationship.“She doesn’t turn to drugs or fall into a bad place. She relies on her faith. Julie is strong, honest and really stares in the face of adversity,” she said.“Crazy” is the first novel in a trilogy that will follow the characters’ often tumultuous relationship. The second novel, “Girls Night Out,” is in the works.“Part two will take you back a little to when Julie and Dan first met. They met in Millbrook and you’ll see how they got to where they are in ‘Crazy,’” she said. The third novel, “The Cottage,” will find the fate of the two resting on Dan’s shoulders.“It’s really up to him how big ‘The Cottage’ will be and who will be living in it,” she said.Marshall began writing her first novel two years ago.“I had a story to tell, and I sat and prayed and it just came pouring out,” she said.Marshall hopes to reach out to other women who have dealt or are dealing with infidelity.“If one man comes across this book and thinks twice about the ramifications of cheating, then all the work has paid off. I think women react very emotionally and being cheated on has put many women in some dark places,” she said. The story throws in a twist that allows the character to open up and begin to deal with the situations at hand.“This isn’t just about being cheated on. Julie deals with eight separate instances of infidelity. Yet, she’s still with Dan. It’s about love. True, deep, real love. It’s following that journey, the ability to deal with and move past such a huge, devastating string of events,” she said.Marshall is planning several book signings in the area.“We’ll keep all the events updated on our website and on Facebook,” she said.Marshall will host a book-signing celebration at Copperfield’s Restaurant on Route 44 in Millbrook on Sunday, May 20. Friends, family and fans are welcome to attend to enjoy refreshments and talk to the author. “Crazy: A True Love Story” may be purchased online at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com. The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
