‘Dream Big, Read!’ at the Pine Plains Free Library

PINE PLAINS — The Pine Plains Free Library kicked off its summer reading program on Saturday, July 7.Jackie Reynolds, also known as Bee Bee the Clown, was on hand to provide 4- to 10-year-olds with a morning of fun and learning.Bee Bee acted out stories and showed off an array of magic tricks.“Each one of you will receive a bag to take home with your very own magic wand!” she said.Children in the audience participated throughout her show and paid close attention while she explained the magic tricks that they could take home to try.The library also hosted a sale on the same day, opening up the large basement area to shoppers who were invited to fill medium or large bags with books for a single price.“It’s been a good day. Steady business. It’s nice and cool down here too, so it’s a great way to beat the heat,” said Jean Osofsky, a member of the FRIENDS of the Pine Plains Library.The library is working with the Mid-Hudson Library System to bring to life the 2012 summer reading theme, “Dream Big, Read!”Throughout the summer the library will be holding story adventures on Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m.On July 14 the first story adventure hour will be Dreams and Wishes, followed by Night, Night on July 21.The adventures will include a story, crafts and snacks.On Thursday, July 19, the program continues as Christopher the Story Buddy comes to the library at 6 p.m.Everyone is encouraged to bring their nighttime buddies along and join in a family adventure.Anyone participating in the summer reading program can also go to www.pineplains.lib.ny.us and click the summer reading link to keep a log of books read and browse through fun summer reading choices.For more information on the summer reading program, call the Pine Plains Free Library at 518-398-1927 or stop by at 7775 South Main St. in Pine Plains.

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.

North Canaan gives gratitude to veterans

NORTH CANAAN — Students at North Canaan Elementary School saluted servicemen and servicewomen at a Veterans Day ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Eighteen veterans were honored, many of whom attended the ceremony and were connected to the school as relatives of students or staff.

When longtime arts administrator Amy Wynn became the first executive director of the American Mural Project (AMP) in 2018, the nonprofit was part visionary art endeavor, part construction site and part experiment in collaboration.

Today, AMP stands as a fully realized arts destination, home to the world’s largest indoor collaborative artwork and a thriving hub for community engagement. Wynn’s departure, marked by her final day Oct. 31, closes a significant chapter in the organization’s evolution. Staff and supporters gathered the afternoon before to celebrate her tenure with stories, laughter and warm tributes.
