‘Good people of Falls Village’ step up to help library

FALLS VILLAGE — The Center on Main in Falls Village was packed for the annual auction fundraiser for the David M. Hunt Library on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 5.

Students from the Lee H. Kellogg School circulated with trays of hors d’oeuvres. (The youngsters had to make frequent trips to the Senior Center next door to replenish the trays.)

Above the sound of people eating, drinking and socializing, Master of Ceremonies Adam Sher encouraged bidding on items in the silent auction.

“Good people of Falls Village!” he said over the hubbub. “Put some numbers on the sheets!”

Upon entering the Center, attendees were checked in by the Giumarros — Ruth, Bob and Sofia — and library board member Garth Kobal.

Dave Barger, tapped to be the auctioneer for the live auction (and sporting a recently grown moustache), went over his material prior to the live auction. Asked about the facial hair, he said the challenge was keeping it symmetrical when trimming.

The library auction typically accounts for 15% of the library’s annual revenue.
