Andrew Goodwin Summerville

SHARON — Andrew Goodwin Summerville, a member of the greatest generation, died peacefully in Sharon on Aug. 9, 2014, his children at his side.Andy was born on April 4, 1929, in Oil City, Pa., to Elma and Dr. Donald Vaugn Summerville. He survived his parents, brothers and sister, Donald Vaugn Summerville Jr, Nancy Jane Bowen and William George Summerville.He met the love of his life, Joyce May Smith, when they were 13. He was summer captain of a Lake Erie tour boat, the Johnny T. Andy also built and sailed his own sailboat that year. A graduate of Fort Erie High School in Canada, he joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving on the ship USS Wright. He later attended the University of Buffalo.Andy and Joy married while he was in the service, on May 6, 1950, in Memphis, Tenn. They made their home in Jacksonville, Fla., Buffalo, N.Y., Grand Island N.Y., Niagara River Boulevard; Fort Erie, Canada; Suffern, N.Y.; Winter Haven, Fla.; Melbourne, Fla.; and Gainesville, Fla. During those years, their children were born and Andy worked in the accounting field, including founding his own companies, Gardco and AGS Coin and Currency.Andy and Joy were the wonderful, beloved parents of Jo-Ann (“Jody”) Huston and Lee of Gainesville, Andrew Goodwin Summerville Jr. and Betsy of Goshen, Edward “Ted” Howard William, the late Maria Summerville and Patricia Erin Neighbors and Bart of Katy, Texas. Cherished also are his dearest lifelong friends, Bob and Lenny Scoot of Millennium, Colo. Joy died on June 7, 2002, after 52 years of marriage.Andy’s treasured grandchildren are Andrew Huston, Eric Huston, Robyn Knowlton, Ian Summerville, Emma Summerville, Brenda Huggins, Erik Huggins, Sean Summerville, the late Scott Summerville, Alexandra Neighbors and Gregory Neighbors.The great-grandchildren who delighted him are Honesty Huston, Connor Houston (pre-natal), Jack Knowlton, Benjamin Knowlton and Matthew Knowlton. He also leaves much-loved nieces, a nephew and friends.A special thanks goes out from the family for the loving care from the staff of Harbor Chase Assisted Living in Gainesville; Sharon Heath Care Center; and Salisbury Hospice.Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, and 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later time at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Fla.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Pillow and Pals to provide comfort and stuffed animals for companionship and to those suffering from Alzheimer’s-type dementia at the Sharon Heath Care Center.

NORFOLK –Roomful of Blues, the Rhode Island-based band hailed by DownBeat magazine as being “in a class by themselves,” will bring its mix of blues, jump, swing, boogie-woogie and soul to Infinity Hall in Norfolk on Friday, April 17, at 8 p.m.

The long-running group, formed in 1967, is touring behind its Alligator Records album Steppin’ Out!, released in late 2025.

Bob was born Jan. 16, 1949, to the late Peter and Dorothy (Fountain) Stapf. He began working at an early age, met his forever love, Sandy, in 7th grade and later graduated from Pine Plains Central School.

SHARON — Michael Joseph Carabine, 81, of Sharon, Connecticut, passed away on the morning of Friday, April 3, 2026, at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He was the beloved husband of the late Angela Derrico Carabine and loving father to Caitlin Carabine McLean.

Michael was born on April 23, 1944, in Bronx, New York. He was the son of the late Thomas and Kathleen Carabine of New York.

The parking lot of The Little Red Barn Brewers in Winsted was full on Wednesday, April 8, as more than 100 people from 43 Connecticut towns — including New Haven and Vernon — arrived carrying personal treasures for a live taping of “Audacious LIVE Show & Tell.”

Chion Wolf, host and producer of Connecticut Public’s “Audacious,” and her crew, led by production manager Maegn Boone, brought the program to the packed brewery for an evening of story-driven conversation and shared keepsakes.

After nearly 50 years of painting some of Litchfield County’s oldest homes and landmark properties, Marge Parkhurst has developed an eye for the past—reading the clues left behind in stenciled vines, forgotten bottles and newspapers tucked into walls, each revealing a small but vivid piece of Connecticut history.

Parkhurst was stripping wallpaper in a farmhouse in Colebrook — the kind of historic home she has spent decades restoring — when she noticed something odd. Three layers of paper had already come off — each one a different era’s idea of decoration — and beneath them, just barely visible under dull, off-white plaster, a pattern emerged.
