Arc Cheerleaders win at U.S. Finals

AMENIA — The Amenia Recreation Cheerleaders (Arc Cheer) continued their streak of competitive success last month, taking home first place at a U.S. Finals competition in Providence, R.I.

The Arc Angels — one of two program groups — competed in the Junior Level 1 division.

The team received a first-place trophy and champion banner, and each cheerleader brought home a championship jacket for the win.

The win earned the Arc Angels entry in a U.S. Finals Champions Challenge against winners from five other national competitions in Chicago, Virginia Beach, Kansas City, Pensacola and Indianapolis.

The national judges compared competition scores and videos of each team’s performance at the regional contest.

The Arc Angles advanced through the first stage of that challenge to round two to compete for the grand champion title.

The cheerleaders ultimately ranked third out of 12 in that round of judging.

“I’m just so proud of the girls for all the hard work and really thankful to the parents who [accommodated] their schedules to go to this,” Arc Cheer Coach Katrina Stossel said.

Stossel also thanked team sponsors for making it possible for the team to go as far as U.S. Finals.

The Arc Cheerleaders now rest before their fourth active season begins with practices in September.

Stossel said the girls will “continue to work harder routines” and advanced skills.
