Berkley W. Kelsey Jr.


FALLS VILLAGE —Berkley W. Kelsey Jr.,73, died peacefully at home on April 19, 2007. He was the husband of Susan (Fitch) Kelsey.

Born in Sharon, he was the son of the late Gladys (Pickert) and Berkley W. Kelsey. He grew up in the Taconic section of Salisbury and graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1952. He attended the University of Connecticut and the Bartlett School of Tree Surgery. He was a self-employed arborist who owned and operated B.W. Kelsey Expert Tree Service in Falls Village for more than 40 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Debra Kelsey and her husband, Jim Kearney, of Belchertown, Mass., Peter Kelsey of Belchertown, Lynn Karcheski of North Canaan, David Kelsey of Falls Village, and Christine McDonald and her husband, Joe, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Greg, Scott, Adam, Kelsey, Morgan and Joseph; two great-granddaughters, Lillian and Ellanor; a nephew, James Kelsey of Chelmsford, Mass.; and his niece, Heidi Sutton of Hopkinton, Mass.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Sanford Kelsey.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the Falls Village Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his honor to VNA Northwest Inc., PO Box 1867, Litchfield, CT 06759-1867.

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley Regional High School's girls soccer team's state tournament run concluded in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Morgan High School Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.

Local writer shares veterans’ stories in Malcolm Gladwell’s ‘Medal of Honor’ podcast

SHARON, Conn. — After 20 years as a magazine editor with executive roles at publishing giants like Condé Nast and Hearst, Meredith Rollins never imagined she would become the creative force behind a military history podcast. But today, she spends her days writing about some of the most heroic veterans in United States history for “Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage,” a podcast produced by Malcolm Gladwell’s company, Pushkin Industries.

From her early days in book publishing to two decades in magazines and later a global content strategist for Weight Watchers, Rollins has built a long and varied career in storytelling.

Salisbury honors veterans in snowy ceremony

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.
