Bombers track team excels at Hudson invitational

PINE PLAINS — Pine Plains Coach Jeremy Weber said he was impressed by the outstanding performances of the Pine Plains varsity spring track team at an invitational meet on Saturday, May 11.

Pine Plains competed against 10 different teams on the track at Hudson High School in Hudson. By meet’s end, the Pine Plains girls track team finished in fifth place out of 11 teams with a total of 48 points while the boys track team came in fourth place with 57 points.

On top of winning the pole vault, Autumn Prezzano, an eighth grader at Stissing Mountain Junior/Senior High School, came in third place in the 400 meter hurdles and in fourth place for the 100 meter hurdles. Stissing Mountain sophomore Sage Douglass scored fourth place in the pole vault and placed sixth in both the 400 meter hurdles and the high jump. Meanwhile, Stissing Mountain junior Britney Mercado came in fifth place in the shot put and placed sixth in the discus. Meredith Michetti earned third place in the high jump while her sister, Maddy, came in sixth place in the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and the triple jump.

For the invitational’s relay teams, Samantha Haines, Sarah Leach and Meredith and Maddy Michetti came in fifth place in the 4 x 100 relay. Leach, Prezzano, Brianna Blackburn and Cameron Decker earned fifth place in the 4 x 400 relay. For the 4 x 800 relay, Blackburn, Decker, Keara Nielsen and Patience Tindall came in third place.

Along with placing second in the 200 meter dash, Christian Aldana came in fifth for the 100 meter dash while Stissing Mountain junior Kyle Stracher finished in second place in the 100 meter dash and in seventh place in the 200 meter dash. Stissing Mountain junior Joe Krimmer finished in second place in the 400 meter dash and in seventh place in the high jump while seventh grader Nick McPherson came in sixth place in the 3,200 meter dash and in ninth place in the 1,600 meter dash. Alex Lopez-Reyes finished in fifth place for the 1,600 meter dash and earned sixth place in the 800 meter dash while TJ Roach came in sixth place in the pole vault and finished in seventh place in the 400 meter dash.

Evan Matthews, Zach Franze, Diego Lopez and Adolfo Lopez finished in third place for the freshman/sophomore 4 x 100 relay as did Lopez-Reyes, McPherson, Matt Leach and Patrick Gieseler in the 4 x 800 relay. Aldana, Stracher, Krimmer and Adam Hess celebrated a first place victory in the 4 x 100 relay. Krimmer, Lopez-Reyes, Roach and Josh Bay also won first place for competing in the 4 x 400 relay.

“We are very impressed with all the outstanding performances that our team accomplished today,” Weber said in praise of the athletes who stepped up with a great team performance at the invitational.
