Business Association offers digital marketing panel

PINE PLAINS — The Pine Plains Business Association (PPBA) will present a digital marketing panel on How to Grow Your Business and Keep Your Customers.

This seminar, for the benefit of current and prospective Pine Plains business owners, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Stissing House (second floor). There will be socializing after the panel is over.  

The event is free to current PPBA members and a guest. All others will be charged $15 at the door. To RSVP, email stissinghouse@gmail.com.

Experts will discuss the answers to questions such as:

• What should an owner do to make sure their business can be found by online search engines such as Google, Bing and Yelp?

• What are best practices in sending emails to customers?

• How does a business get good public relations online and what happens when something bad is said?

• How can co-partnerships with other businesses/organizations or charities help a business?

• How well do you know your audience and what is the best way to reach  them?

• How can Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram be used to promote a business?

• How much time does it really take to use social media?

• Who can be reached online and will it really help grow a business?

Questions can be asked at the end of the session.

'Sylvia' brings heart, humor and one unforgettable dog to Sharon Playhouse stage

What if the dog onstage was played by a person? That’s the delightful twist in A.R. Gurney’s “Sylvia,” opening at the Sharon Playhouse on Aug. 29. In this clever and heartfelt comedy, the title character — a stray pup who disrupts the lives of a married couple — is portrayed not in costume but by an actor who brings insight, charm, and chaos to the role.

Stepping into Sylvia’s paws is Jen Cody, who is returning to the Sharon Playhouse in a starring role for her third year in a row, ready to bring this spirited dog to life. She’s joined by Jonathan Walker as Greg, the middle-aged man smitten with his new four-legged friend, and Jennifer Van Dyck as Kate, his wife, whose patience and identity are tested by Sylvia’s sudden presence in their home.
