Business profile: John’s Imports

WINSTED — John’s Imports, open since 1975, is located at 98 North Main St.The deli was started by John DiMauro and is now owned by his son, Patrick. The deli offers a wide selection of sandwiches and meats.“The Italy’s Best is our signature sandwich and is our best, in my opinion,” Patrick DiMauro said. “It has capicola, mozzarella, lettuce, hot peppers, onions, a bit of vinegar and a couple of other things. However, any good six-foot grinder on Italian bread is a good start! We also do specialties such as codfish sandwiches sometimes to mix things up.”DiMauro said he was 17 years old when his father started the deli.“It’s been 40 years since the deli was started, and I think my success comes from knowing everybody in town,” he said. “This is a mom-and-pop store that has a niche. Sure, we can’t compete with some big business, but I think we do well here.”John’s Imports is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. For more information call 860-379-1805.
