Candy store closes on Main Street

WINSTED — Sandy’s Candy Haus, which opened in November on 450 Main St., closed sometime last week.Where there once were shelves upon shelves of candy, chocolates and other sweet goods, the whole store is now empty and bare.Co-owner Sandra Folett, who owned the store with her husband, Frank, blamed the closure on a lack of business.“Winsted is a dead town,” Sandra Folett said. “We are still keeping our business open by doing farmers markets, festivals and taking Internet orders.”This marks the fourth business to shut its doors so far this year. The Winsted Diner shut down in March after almost 80 years in business. The Winsted Mobil Station, which was the last full-service station in town, closed in April after 59 years. Christine’s Flower Shoppe, the last florist in town, lasted for 17 years before closing in April.Sandy’s Candy Haus was in business on Main Street for nine months.
