Dodd surgery a success

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) underwent surgery Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to treat early stage prostate cancer. A press release Tuesday afternoon declared the surgery a success and said Dodd was doing well.

Dodd was expected to remain in the hospital for the rest of the week, followed by a brief recuperation period at home with his family.

Dr. Peter Scardino, chairman of the department of surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, described the early-stage prostate cancer surgery as successful in a written statement. “It is anticipated that he will be able to return to full activity within a few weeks, he said.

Dodd is currently serving his fifth term as a Connecticut senator. He is chairman of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. He also serves as chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Peace Corps and Narcotics. He is a senior member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and a member of the Rules and Administration Committee.

The senator lives in East Haddam with his wife, Jackie Clegg Dodd, and their daughters, Grace and Christina.
