Eleanor Briggs Ahlberg

TORRINGTON — Eleanor Briggs Ahlberg, 75, formerly of Barkhamsted, died  June 15, 2010, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born in Mystic Oct. 11, 1934, she was a daughter of  Howard and Louise (Saunders) Briggs. Prior to her retirement, she had worked at Aetna Insurance for 10 years. She had also owned and operated the Hilltop Nursery and Florist in Barkhamsted, a dairy farm in Harwinton, worked for Prudential Real Estate, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital admitting and Dr. David Louchs.

She was a 1952 graduate of the Newington High School, was active in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, was organist at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, president of United Methodist Women and volunteered at the beanhole suppers.

Her survivors include three sons, Richard Ahlberg and his wife, Anita, of Catskill, N.Y., Jeffrey Ahlberg and his wife, Maureen, of Southbury and Steven Ahlberg and his wife, Emma, of Savanna, Ga.; two daughters, Karen Civelli and her husband, Wayne, of Torrington and Kristen Ahlberg of Middletown; three sisters, Diane Wintering of New York City, Marion Voss of Lloyd Harbor, N.Y., and Susan Tuvito of Mineola, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Douglas Howard Ahlberg, who died in 1970.

A memorial service was held June 19 at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Gabor officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School varsity baseball won big at home Wednesday, April 16, with a 15-3 win against Terryville High School.

Housatonic performed well on both sides of the ball. Offensively, HVRHS batters combined for 12 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

NWCT Arts Council: Spring fundraiser

On Saturday, April 26, the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council will host a special evening, Arts Connected, their spring fundraiser celebrating the power of creativity and community. Held at the Bryan Memorial Town Hall in Washington Depot from 5 to 8 p.m., this event brings together artists, performers, and neighbors for a magical night filled with inspiration, connection and joy.

Award-winning designer and arts advocate Diane von Furstenberg and her granddaughter Antonia Steinberg are honorary co-chairs of the event. Their shared love of the arts informs the spirit of the evening.
