Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Reed Pitcher

SHARON — Elizabeth “Betty” Reed Pitcher, 90, of Gay Street died at Sharon Hospital on March 12, 2011. She was the wife of Everett “Bub” Pitcher.Betty was born in Sharon on Jan. 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Margaret (Reed) and Eugene Callahan. She was a postal worker for many years. Both Betty and Bub enjoyed going to dances when they were in high school. They were married Nov. 15, 1941. They both enjoyed watching and rooting for the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team. Betty was also an avid golfer. During the 1970s and 1980s they vacationed in Spain and Mexico with Donald and Hazel Carley. They also had a vacation home in Nokomis, Fla. In addition to her husband of 69 years, Betty is survived by her son, Stephen of Sharon; two grandchildren, Edward Pitcher of Columbia, Conn., and Bryan Pitcher of Torrington; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan and Hayley; and several nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 17, at the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon, from 3 to 5 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon Volunteer Ambulance or the American Legion.

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
