Emmie Louise (Liebhart) Pilch

PINE PLAINS — Emmie Louise (Liebhart) Pilch entered eternal rest on Oct. 4, 2018.

Emmie was born on Sept. 25, 1926, in Manhattan, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Liebhart.

Emmie attended school in Rye, N.Y. She was employed by IBM in Poughkeepsie, Merrill Lynch in White Plains and most recently by Danbury Hospital as a Patient Access Associate.

Emmie was predeceased by her son, George H. Pilch, on March 22, 2017. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Liebhart and Henry Liebhart.

Emmie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Judith M. Pilch of New Milford; and her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy J. and Alfred Blackburn of Pine Plains.

Emmie, affectionately known to all as Nanio, had the joy of eight grandchildren, Brett Porter of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael Porter and his wife, Heather Williams Porter of Red Hook, N.Y., Christopher Mitchell of Newport News, Va., Nora Therese Wolf and her husband, James Wolfe of Valatie, N.Y., Alfred Blackburn and his wife, Maureen Murray Blackburn of Pine Plains, Jacquelyn Stoliker and her husband, Shawn Stoliker of Red Hook, Bob Blackburn and his wife, Nina Bruneau of Hillsdale, N.Y., and Daniel Blackburn and his wife, Caroline Nelson Blackburn of Stanfordville, N.Y.

Her life was brightened by her 11 great-grandchildren, Nolan Wolfe, Seamus Wolfe and Trevor Wolfe all of Valatie, Hunter Stoliker and Julia Stoliker of Red Hook, Brianna Blackburn, Michelle Blackburn and Alfred Blackburn of Pine Plains, Benjamin Blackburn of Hillsdale and  Hudson Porter and Gemma Porter of Arizona.

Emmie is also survived by her forever friend, Dr. Vito Gesualdi of Bethel, Conn. Barbara Dohan and Sumar Fayad were her friends to the end.

Emmie was the last of the Golden Girls. The perpetually fun-loving group of Vivian Smith, Regina Castelli and Kathleen Moore are united again to bring laughter to the saints.

Emmie is also survived by several nieces and nephews including JoAnn and Bob Wolfe of Stanfordville.

Friends are invited and may call on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral in Pine Plains.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at  St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Pine Plains, the Rev. Kent Wilson officiating.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Emmie’s family would like to extend their most sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of The Gardens in Danbury, Conn., who made the last two months of Emmie’s life filled with love and compassion. We could not have asked for more. The gracious care that Emmie received in the ER of Danbury Hospital and the 11th floor will forever be appreciated by her family.

BRISTOL — The Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team ended the season with a 34-0 shutout victory over St. Paul Catholic High School Wednesday, Nov. 26.

It was GNH’s fourth consecutive Turkey Bowl win against St. Paul and the final game for 19 GNH seniors.

The Kearcher-Monsell Gallery at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village is once again host to a wonderful student-curated exhibition. “Once Upon a Time in America,” ten portraits by New Haven artist Katro Storm, opened on Nov. 20 and will run through the end of the year.

“This is our first show of the year,” said senior student Alex Wilbur, the current head intern who oversees the student-run gallery. “I inherited the position last year from Elinor Wolgemuth. It’s been really amazing to take charge and see this through.”

Mini horses, big impact: animal learning center opens in Sheffield

Le Petit Ranch offers animal-assisted therapy and learning programs for children and seniors in Sheffield.

Le Petit Ranch, a nonprofit offering animal-assisted therapy and learning programs, opened in April at 147 Bears Den Road in Sheffield. Founded by Marjorie Borreda, the center provides programs for children, families and seniors using miniature horses, rescued greyhounds, guinea pigs and chickens.

Borreda, who moved to Sheffield with her husband, Mitch Moulton, and their two children to be closer to his family, has transformed her longtime love of animals into her career. She completed certifications in animal-assisted therapy and coaching in 2023, along with coursework in psychiatry, psychology, literacy and veterinary skills.
