Eugene Brooks Intermediate School hosts breakfast

WEBUTUCK — The North East (Webutuck) Central School District’s Eugene Brooks Intermediate School (EBIS) has a special tradition the day before the winter break. For more than 25 years the school has hosted a breakfast that includes faculty, staff and students in grades fourth to eighth. Beautifully set tables, student-generated snowflakes, poems and decorations could be seen throughout the gym, which was transformed into a winter wonderland. This special event takes much effort and planning. Teachers and staff members signed up to take on various roles in creating this special event. The kitchen staff provided a delicious breakfast which students enjoyed as they listened to the chorus and band perform for them. This was only the start to an exciting day at EBIS. In the afternoon, numerous faculty and staff competed against eighth-graders in a volleyball tournament. Students from grades four to eight boisterously cheered for both sides as they watched from the stands. The score may have seemed one-sided, but a good time was had by all. This was only the second year for this activity, but many students hope this will continue so they, too, can play in eighth grade. The combination of these two activities made for a memorable day for our students before they went on winter break.Jenna Marie Garofalo is EBIS seventh- and eighth-grade English Language Arts (ELA) teacher and Mary Murphy is EBIS fourth-grade teacher.
