Evelyn (Welch) Mullen

NORTH CANAAN — Evelyn (Welch) Mullen, 95, of Reed Street, died Jan. 14, 2014, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of John F. Mullen. Evelyn was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Shelton, Conn., the daughter of the late Anna (Pinkava) and Robert H. Welch. Evelyn was raised in Sheffield, Mass., and graduated from Sheffield High School, class of 1936, and the Berkshire Business School. She was employed for 31 years as the bookkeeper for Brewer Bros. Inc. in North Canaan. Evelyn was a member and past president of the Berkshire Business Women, a member of St. Joseph’s Circle Daughters of Isabella and the Falls Village Seniors. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in North Canaan. Evelyn is survived by a son, Thomas F. Mullen, of East Canaan; a daughter, Johanna Gulotta and her husband, Leonard, of North Canaan; a brother, F. James Welch and his wife, Doris, of Milford, N.Y.; his grandsons, Scott and his wife, Heather, and Shawn and Ryan and his wife, Anastasia; and her great-grandchildren, Laynie, Reece, Ryan Jr. Coghlan and Liam. In addition to her husband, Evelyn was predeceased by her son, John F. Mullen Jr.; her brothers, George, Robert, Joseph and Richard Welch; her daughter-in-law, Becky Mullen; and several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian burial was held Jan. 18 in St. Joseph Church in North Canaan. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be sent to the Canaan Fire Company, PO Box 642, North Canaan, CT 06018. Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

CANAAN — Anita L. (King) Gochey, 85, of 77 South Canaan Rd. died June 5, 2026, at Geer Village. She was the wife of the late Lester Gochey. Anita was born July 16, 1940,in Winsted, daughter of the late Ivan and Irene (Dulude) King.

Anita was well known throughout the Northwest Corner. She worked for many local businesses and organizations. Anita worked at the Rexall Drug Store, C.A. Lindell and Sons, Bob’s Clothing, Brooks Pharmacy, and the Housatonic Valley Regional High School in the cafeteria.She used her skills in calligraphy to complete the record books for the North Canaan Congregational Church.Anita’s daughter remembers her as being very creative with cardboard, and a loving mom.
