Young artists create ‘Birds of the World’

FALLS VILLAGE — Young artists and their families came to the David M. Hunt Library Saturday morning, Jan. 28, to see the latest art show, “Birds of the World.”

The paintings, drawings and sculptures were done by the emerging artists of the Lee H. Kellogg School by students from Kindergarten to grade 8, under the guidance of art teacher Susana Martinez-Bauer

One of the rules was that everybody had to do a different bird. Eli Sher said he looked far and wide before settling on the long-billed curlew.

The show will remain on display through March 3.

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The students learned about the destructive impact of invasives as they trudged — often bent over — across wet ground on the semblance of a trail, led by Tom Zetterstrom, a North Canaan tree preservationist and member of the Sharon Land Trust.
