Filling and service station to (re)open on Route 44

MILLERTON — The Getty station on Route 44 that has been boarded up and all but abandoned for the past few months is about to be resurrected by businessman Mike Lyman, who owns the Millerton Service Center on South Center Street. Getty Petroleum will continue to own the property, but Lyman, who has run the station previously, will operate the gas pumps and set up a second village repair shop on the site.

“We’re going to operate both places as automotive repair facilities, he said, adding that he first ran the Getty 21 years ago and only left the shop seven years ago.

That start-up date could be as early as Aug. 1, if all goes according to plan. So far Lyman said he has all of the required permits and licenses in place; he’s just cleaning things up and getting the place organized, so everything is ship shape for the grand opening.

Lyman’s son, Adam, is going to run the business. He’s been working at the South Center Street shop; he’s a master technician and a graduate of the Toyota Technical School.

“The idea is to make this station more of an express, with quick, in-and-out service, like oil changes, brake jobs, exhaust work and relatively quick things, Adam Lyman said.

“Either Adam or I can direct them to [which shop is better for them] depending on what the situation is, Mike Lyman said.
