Fireman's fair tonight and this weekend

KENT — The Kent Fireman’s fair will begin tonight, Aug. 27, and continue until Saturday, Aug 29, at the Kent Fairgrounds on South Main Street.

The fair has been going on for so long that not even Fire Chief Eric Epstein knows when it started.

“I have no idea when it began, Epstein said. “It’s been going on for a long while now. I’m real excited about it and I’m hoping for good weather.

One down note in an otherwise happy event: “This marks the somewhat unofficial end of summer for children, the fire chief observed.

The fair will include a variety of old-fashioned entertainments, including lumberjack expositions, a cash blower lottery, a dunking booth, a frog jumping contest, carnival rides and more.

“On Friday we will have a parade starting on 6:45 p.m. on Main Street featuring 20 fire departments from throughout the area, Epstein said. “It should be fun.

The fairgrounds open Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m. (there will be a dog show at 4:30 p.m.) Admission is on a graduated scale. Anyone who enters on Thursday evening will be charged $5, but will be able to attend Friday and Saturday for free. Those who attend Friday pay $4 and Saturday is free. Those who attend Saturday will pay $3.

There will also be an unlimited ride bracelet offered for $20.
