Former hotel sold, more signs of life in downtown Winsted

A major piece of real estate in the heart of the downtown Winsted area has been sold, to a local company.

The four-story building at 398 Main St. was sold on July 24 by former owner Marty Goldin of Brooklyn, N.Y., to property management firm Impetus Properties LLC of Winsted.

According to town records, the building was sold for $910,000.

It was originally built as the Hotel Winchester in 1898 and, over the years, was turned into an office and apartment building.

Goldin, through his company KBK Capital LLC, purchased the building in 2012 for $730,000.

In 2012 Goldin also purchased the Mad River Lofts building, which is across the street from 398 Main St.

Selling the former hotel, he said, will give him more time to focus on Mad River Lofts.

There are 24 apartments in the building, Goldin said, along with four business offices on the first floor.

The Friends of Main Street and Town and Country Real Estate have offices in the building; the other two office spaces have been vacant for some time.

Impetus Properties is co-owned by Jeffrey Reich and Aaron Landini.

The town’s property database says the company owns a total of 12 additional properties throughout town, including several multi-family homes.

The company also owns the buildings at 420 and 424 Main St., whose tenants are the Winsted News Co. and Winsted Pawn and Jewelry; there are apartments above both stores.

Neither Reich nor Landini returned calls for comment for this article.
