Gladys R. Rockefeller

MILLERTON — Gladys R. Rockefeller, 88, a 70-year resident of Millerton, died at Sharon Health Care Center on Oct. 2, 2012, with her family by her side. Born Jan. 19, 1924, in Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Buelah (Hatch) and Calvin Odell. She attended Massachusetts area schools and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Millerton.On May 30, 1942, in Millerton, she married Harold Robert Rockefeller. Mr. Rockefeller died in April 1992. Mrs. Rockefeller was an avid painter who also enjoyed crocheting, dancing and country music. She was also a very spiritual woman and enjoyed spending time with her loving family. Mrs. Rockefeller is survived by her daughter, Caroline Burke, of Millerton; a son, Robert Rockefeller of South Kent; three grandchildren, Donna Burke and Gary Burke of Canton, Conn., and Daniel Burke of Millerton; three great-grandchildren, Ethan and Joshua Burke of Canton and Athena Burke of Millerton; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.In addition to her husband and her parents she was predeceased by seven siblings. Calling hours were held on Oct. 5 at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home in Millerton. Funeral services followed at the funeral home, the Rev. Zora Cheetham officiating. Doors open at new Sarum Village affordable housing

SALISBURY — The third group of affordable housing units at Sarum Village is complete. There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday afternoon, Sept 30.

Sarum Village is owned by the private Salisbury Housing Committee, Inc. SHC Vice-President Jocelyn Ayer set the stage, noting that there are 204 households in Salisbury who pay 50% or more of their income for housing.

Haystack Festival returns to Norfolk

Now in its sixth year, the Haystack Book Festival brings together writers and thinkers in unmoderated conversation. Produced in conjunction with the Norfolk Foundation, whose mission is “to contribute to the vitality and sustainability of Norfolk, particularly in relation to the town’s natural setting and multiple artistic and cultural attractions,” the Haystack Book Festival takes place at the Norfolk Library. On Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1:30 p.m. the festival will have an event for middle grade readers at The HUB featuring Sarah Maslin Nir.

“We’re excited to be celebrating the sixth year of the festival. This year we have a great program discussing topics as wide ranging as ballet, interpreting the landscape, and looking at the horse as a treasured companion throughout history, along with other ideas that will be discussed on our stage,” says Michael Selleck co-director of the Haystack Book Festival.
