Golf tournament raises funds for athletic programs

PINE PLAINS — The Pine Plains Bombers Booster Club held a fundraising golf tournament at the Carvel Country Club last Saturday, May 30.

This is the second tournament in six months, explained Woody Woodward, who helped organize the event. The last event raised about $9,500, which goes toward the athletic programs at the Pine Plains Central School District. The Booster Club has been a major help to the sports teams this year, as Pine Plains has been under a contingency budget and was unable to pay for transportation to some away games with longer travel time.

Registration was $300 per team, and breakfast, lunch and dinner were provided to the hungry athletes.

“It’s basically to have fun, Woodward said of the day. “It helps the sports, and there are a lot of local sponsors and different persons helping out as well.

This time 23 teams of four signed up for the tournament. Prizes were awarded and raffles were available. Woodward thanked Roger Lougheed of Peddlar’s Cafe for providing food and the country club for giving discounts on golf rates.
