Halloween on Main Street

WINSTED — Halloween came early this year thanks to the Friends of Main Street organization’s annual Trick or Treat on Main Street event Saturday, Oct. 30.

Main Street was flooded with ghosts, princesses, dinosaurs and everything in between. Children of all ages and their parents paraded around, stopping at each business that was handing out candy. Participating businesses, including The Winsted Journal, had orange pumpkin signs attached to their front doors.

Many parents noticed the huge rise in children participating this year. One grandmother escorting her children noted last year she barely saw 10 trick-or-treaters, but this year it seemed as if there were more than 100. Parents got into the spirit as well, dressing up in their own costumes.

Georgi and Darin Barber, owners of Winsted News, dressed up as Batman and Batgirl.

“We couldn’t believe the turnout this year, said Georgi. “I think we had somewhere around 200 to 300 kids come through. We kept having to get more candy. It was great!

Darin Barber added, “It’s really great to see kids getting out there and parents, too. It’s just such a nice thing to see for Winsted.

The afternoon continued with a steady stream of children coming through until after 4 p.m.

Friends of Main Street organizers said they hope the event will continue to grow, with more children and businesses participating every year.
