SALISBURY — The Salisbury Housing Committee plans to add six units of rental housing for residents of moderate means at Sarum Village, which is on Cobble Road between Routes 41 and 44.
Housing Committee President Anne Kremer said the new multi-unit building, in a space to the west of the existing buildings, will have two each of three-, two- and one-bedroom apartments.
Funding will come in part from the federal Department of Agriculture, and the McChesney Fund has made a matching grant pledge of $50,000, to be raised by November.
Kremer said the Housing Committee will put together a waiting list of applicants for the new units, but said there are units available right now: a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom.
The Housing Committee is one of several groups dedicated to providing affordable housing in town (the others are the Salisbury Housing Trust, which has a duplex on Indian Cave Road currently under construction, and Habitat for Humanity). Selectman Jim Dresser, a member of the town’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, described the Housing Committee as “the unsung hero organization.�
Sarum Village was established in 1988. The committee also oversees rental units in Faith House on Fowler Street.
