FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic boys tennis team (3-2) defeated Thomaston (1-5) 4-1 at home Monday, April 21.
No. 1 singles: Colby Catania (T) defeated Tim Halle (H), 8-2.
No. 2 singles: Stephen Lundeen (H) defeated Arben Coma (T), 8-2.
No. 3 singles: Jake Johannesen (H) defeated Dan Defeatediore (T), 8-0.
No. 1 doubles: Garrett Gobillot/Jim Viafore (H) defeated Charlie Madino/Eric Gunderson (T), 8-3.
No. 2 doubles: Jerad Lauzier/Kyle Watt (H) defeated Pat Martin/Matt Dwan (T), 8-2.
Tim Halle lost his match at No.1 singles to the second best player in the league, Colby Catania. Catania is a two-time Berkshire League All-Star and the runner-up in last year’s tournament. Halle played well and kept the match more competitive than the score indicated.
Stephen Lundeen started off a little slow in his second singles match and fell behind 2-1 before he settled down and ran off seven straight games to take the match. Lundeen’s record for the year is now 4-1.
Jake Johannesen won his second match in a row at No. 3 singles, scoring a shut-out for the first time in his career.
The No. 1 doubles team of Garrett Gobillot and Jim Viafore was back in action after Viafore missed three matches while he was on the school’s China trip. They’ve played together for three years, though, and didn’t miss a beat, winning 8-3.
The No. 2 doubles team of Jerad Lauzier and Kyle Watt is back together as well and won convincingly with an 8-2 score.
This win puts Housy’s record at 3-2. If the team wins eight matches, the boys will qualify for the state tournament as a team for the first time in three years.
The junior varsity players also had some matches on Monday. Freshmen Alex Tellallian and Zach Marrott teamed up. Sophomore Dylan Moore and freshman Sean Patrick also played together. Freshmen Ethan Patrick and Craig Mackay played as well.
In all, 21 students are playing, the biggest team ever. All the underclassmen are practicing really hard and improving every day. The remaining students on the team are Andrew Sadowski, Jack Lenz, Nestor Bramley, Sean Bemand, Matt Walker, Will Morehouse, Conor McCarthy and A.J. Opgenorth.

The team played at home Tuesday, April 22, against Shepaug and lost 5-0, bringing their record to 3-3.
