Housy cross-country beats Gilbert

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School boys and girls cross-country teams competed against The Gilbert School Tuesday, Oct. 12.

The Housy girls defeated Gilbert, 15-50. The Housy boys also won, 25-34.

After the meet, the teams continued a new tradition from last year: The home team cooks burgers for the visitors and the visitors brings snacks.

For the girls, Housy runners in the top 10 were Kaitlyn Ochrym, 26:30, Meghan Riley, 26:39, Gaby Dzenutis, 27:35, Shannon Paton, 27:38, Meghan Crispino, 28:12, Kiera Bisenius, 34:34, Clara Ziegler, 38:34, and Amanda Kitik, Housy, 39:12.

For the boys, runners in the top 10 were Garrett Rogers, 20:32, who took first place, Kevin Arel, 21:36, Spencer Gerowe, 21:47, Taylor Hammond, 23:07, Josh Toomey, 23:54, Gage Hall, 24:04, and Ben Finkelstein, 24:31.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
