Housy girls knock off Litchfield High, 55-36

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School girls basketball team remains undefeated at home. The Mountaineers knocked off league rival Litchfield High School, 55-36, on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Following three straight loses, including a heartbreaker to The Gilbert School in Winsted, the Mountaineers came out fired up to get back into the win column.

With play evenly matched through the first three quarters, both teams entered the final eight minutes with the game still up for grabs. The fourth quarter was all Housy, and as the final buzzer sounded, it was the Mountaineers who emerged victorious.

Housy was led by Tri Captains Chloe Dakers  with 18 points, 5 assists and 3 steals;  Hannah McGuire with 11 points 9 rebounds and 3 assists; and Chelsea Kearns with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Amanda Jacquier chipped in 8 points and 3 steals and Lauren Wilks contributed 3 points and 5 rebounds.

The win brought Housy’s season record to 4-4.

Four days later, in a game postponed one day due to weather, the Mountaineers traveled to league leader Thomaston, losing 68-41.

Thomaston’s full court pressure proved to be the difference in the game as they scored the majority of their points off of turnovers.

McGuire led Housy with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Dakers chipped in 9 points, Jacquier scored 8 points and Mara Dorsey contributed 3 points and 6 rebounds on the night.

The loss dropped the Mountaineers to 4-5 on the season.
