Housy scores new board

FALLS VILLAGE — After 30 years of service, the scoreboard at Housatonic Valley Regional High School broke down this past September.

The scoreboard was donated by the Dichello family in memory of their son, Anthony Dichello, who was a basketball coach at Housatonic in the early 1970s. Dichello’s life was cut short by a hit-and-run driver while he was jogging in 1975.

"He was a great guy," David Bayersdorfer, athletic director at Housatonic, said. "Everyone loved him around here, he was really just a neat person."

Thirty years later, the Dichellos have done it again, donating a new scoreboard to the school in honor of their son. The new scoreboard, which was installed Oct.30, is a more modern version, but still bears the same sign in memoriam to Dichello.

The new scoreboard comes in addition to the donations, somewhere in the vicinity of $200,000, the Dichello family has given to the school in the form of scholarships for boys and girls basketball players who plan to attend four-year colleges.

"The Dichellos have been extremely generous to the Housatonic basketball program," Bayersdorfer said.
