Housy skiers bring home championship

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School varsity Alpine ski team won the Mid-Hudson Valley League championships at the Bousquet Ski Area in Pittsfield, Mass., on Feb. 17.

The team was hot this year, winning four out of five regular season meets in addition to the championship.

“The main reason the team won was because of its consistency, team head coach Jim Terrall said. “You need to finish two runs in order to place, and if you are either over aggressive or complacent you can disqualify yourself. One mistake and you are done.

Terrall cited the work of team members Adam Vernall, Will Perotti, Ben Finklestein, Will Parker, Jeremy Downs and Maren Wilson.

“Ski racing is 40 percent physical and 70 percent mental, Terrall said. “The team had a lot of solid skiers who were able to stay focused.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
