HVRHS girls earn 10 wins

FALLS VILLAGE — On Feb. 25, the Housatonic Valley Regional High School Lady Mountaineers, ranked 25th, traveled to eighth-ranked Windham Tech and won 49-28. HVRHS was led by Katie Heacox with 15 points and seven rebounds. Hailey Nelson added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Heather Kearns scored eight points, plus five assists. Chelsea Kearns had eight points and five rebounds. Lindsey Olownia had four points and five rebounds with three steals. Abby Wilson and Savannah Martin each had two points. Hanna McGuire, Amelia Zucco, Stephanie Serna and Nichole DeVito all played well but did not score.On Feb. 18, Housatonic traveled to Valley Regional in Deep River, Conn. — ranked 24th — and lost to a very good team. The Housatonic girls fought hard as they did all season long, but came up on the short end of the stick, 63-33. HVRHS was led by Heacox with 12 points and eight rebounds. Nelson added seven points plus seven rebounds. Heather Kearns had five points and seven rebounds. Wilson scored three points and four rebounds. Olownia had two points with six rebounds. Chelsea Kearns scored two points with seven rebounds. McGuire, Zucco, Serna, DeVito and Martin all played but did not score. Freshman Amber Ovitt scored 2 points to finish the scoring. Housatonic finished the season with an overall record of 10 wins and 13 losses. It was a pleasure to coach these hardworking young ladies this season.Frank Hadsell is the coach of the HVRHS girls varsity basketball team.

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s girls soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament.

The Mountaineers were the highest seeded team of the four schools remaining in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class S playoffs.

GNH football wins third game in a row

WATERBURY — The Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team record improved to .500 after defeating Waterbury Career Academy 16-12 on Saturday, Nov. 8.

It was the third consecutive win for GNH. After bouncing back from a 1-4 start, the Yellowjackets moved into fourth place in Naugatuck Valley League standings.

FFA students return from Indianapolis with awards

A group of 18 Housatonic Valley FFA students, joined by two American Degree recipients, two chaperones and four advisors, took part in the 98th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, Oct. 29 to Nov. 1.

The event brought together 73,000 FFA members from across the country to compete, learn and celebrate agricultural education.
