Irondale Schoolhouse kicks off 2019 season

MILLERTON — With a steady stream of local residents and weekend visitors, Friends of the Irondale Schoolhouse Board President Ralph Fedele invited everyone to celebrate the opening of the Irondale Schoolhouse for the 2019 season on Saturday, May 25. Community members of all ages came out to explore the historic one-room schoolhouse while the sight of the rope leading up to the school bell prompted visiting children to pause in the doorway and ring the bell.

Bee Bee the Clown kept the youngsters and their families entertained with a medley of magic tricks and balloon animals between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Under a tent next to the schoolhouse, Sunday in the Country Food Drive offered sliders and hot dogs fresh off the grill for lunch while Harney & Sons provided berry tea as a refreshing drink. Paintings by Millerton artist Ray Loper were on display in the schoolhouse with 20% of the sales from the art show benefiting the schoolhouse.

With the sound of the bell signaling the beginning of a new season for the schoolhouse, the community was in good spirits throughout the day. The Irondale Schoolhouse will now be open on the weekends from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
