Isidore P. Jasmin

COLEBROOK — Isidore “Isy†P. Jasmin Jr. died April 26, 2010. He was the loving husband of Mary E. Jasmin for 63 years.

Born Oct. 22, 1924, in Colebrook, he was the son of the late Lillian (Hart) and Isidore  Jasmin.  He was a lifelong resident of Colebrook.

He was owner and operator of Jasmin’s Propane Supply for 35 years. He was an avid gardener who loved his blueberries. In addition to his time in the garden, Mr. Jasmin enjoyed many years of raising domestic farm animals ranging from sheep and cows to pigs.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by two sons, Paul Jasmin and his partner, Dee Pond, of Colebrook and David Jasmin and his wife, Kathy, of Torrington; two sisters, Kathryn Doty of New Hartford and Marie Kostak of Massachusetts; three brothers, Louis Jasmin of Colebrook, Albert “Chic†Jasmin of Winsted and Francis “Butch†Jasmin of Colebrook; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Robert Jasmin.

Graveside services will be held Friday, April 30, 1:30 p.m., at Colebrook Center Cemetery. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, Winsted, has charge of arrangements.

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley Regional High School's girls soccer team's state tournament run concluded in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Morgan High School Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.

Local writer shares veterans’ stories in Malcolm Gladwell’s ‘Medal of Honor’ podcast

SHARON, Conn. — After 20 years as a magazine editor with executive roles at publishing giants like Condé Nast and Hearst, Meredith Rollins never imagined she would become the creative force behind a military history podcast. But today, she spends her days writing about some of the most heroic veterans in United States history for “Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage,” a podcast produced by Malcolm Gladwell’s company, Pushkin Industries.

From her early days in book publishing to two decades in magazines and later a global content strategist for Weight Watchers, Rollins has built a long and varied career in storytelling.

Salisbury honors veterans in snowy ceremony

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.
