It’s time to prepare for the big game

Last week, 2-0; for the playoffs, 7-3.In all my days of watching pro football — which, by the way, dates back to the 1950s — I’ve never seen a game finish like the Green Bay/Seattle game. Unbelievable, indescribable, unpredictable, amazing, there’s no end to the adjectives you can apply when describing how this game came to an end. Seeing as I’m a Seattle fan, I found myself changing channels rather than watching the Packers defense dominate the game while building what looked like an insurmountable lead. I’m not a good loser! After periodic checks to see if the game had changed, I finally switched back to it midway through the fourth quarter and resigned myself to the fact that if the Seahawks were going to lose I would hang with them to the end. Little did I know what was in store in the last five minutes of the game. Touchdowns, on-side kicks, an interception, a last-second field goal by the Packers to tie the game and send it into overtime. It was truly like watching a perfect storm if you are a Seattle fan. The overtime proved to be anticlimactic as Russell Wilson continued his late-game transformation from goat to hero. As for his play in the first 50 minutes of the game, I’ll be kind and say it was shaky at best. You can’t expect to win a game when you throw four interceptions, especially when you’re facing an offense led by Aaron Rodgers. However, once the overtime started he immediately marched his team down the field with two pinpoint passes, the second of which resulted in the winning touchdown. Wow, what a ball game.Unfortunately, even for diehard Patriot fans, the second game turned into a channel changer. The Indianapolis Colts were in over their heads, and the Pats made quick work of them. As I said last week, I thought the two best teams would end up in the Super Bowl, but I must admit it took just short of a miracle for the Seahawks to get there. As for my prediction, you’ll have to wait until next week. In the meantime you should direct your attention to proper preparation for watching the game. There will be plenty of alternatives to consider when choosing how and where to watch the game. There are always the local watering holes that offer free buffets along with a variety of intriguing gaming pools. There is also the option of getting together with friends and family for the classic Super Bowl party. You know the drill by now: Plenty of cold ones, wings, a good pot of chili and plenty of salsa and chips. The menu may vary from year to year, but the essentials stay the same — just make sure that there is an ample supply of Tums or Rolaids.See ya next week!
