It started over sneaker

DOVER PLAINS — The investigation into a stabbing that took place on Wednesday, July 20, in the parking lot of the Four Brothers restaurant in Dover Plains is continuing. New information about that crime released since the July 21 arrest of Dover Plains’ resident Timothy Martinez indicates the altercation began over a pair of shoes, according to New York State Police Investigator Erich Schaefer. “It’s stemming over an argument over a pair of sneakers,” Schaefer said, adding those involved in the fight knew each other. The victim, who remains in stable condition, was stabbed a total of 10 times. His name has not been released as of press time.Twenty-one-year-old Martinez is the only arrest in the case. The other men involved are believed to be around the same age as Martinez. Last week state police said there was a second suspect they had “been in contact with” regarding the crime, but added “no charges have been filed against him.” That remains to be the case.No hard numbers have been released as to how many people were involved in the stabbing, although it was described as a “group” of people. Police have said the incident was not gang related.Martinez was reportedly involved in an earlier incident two weeks prior to the stabbing, with the same assailants; those claims are being investigated.“There looks like there could be some kind of ongoing feud between two groups,” Schaefer said, reiterating that it’s “not really a gang” scenario.According to authorities Martinez turned himself in the day after the incident. He was reportedly given a ride to see his probation officer in Millbrook, to the county’s probation center, in order to surrender. Martinez was charged with assault in the first degree, a class B felony. He was arraigned in Dover Town Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.Schaefer commented on where the case stands at this time.“We have our primary suspect — he’s been arrested — and I’ve got a couple of peripheral interviews to do, and that’s about it,” he said. “It doesn’t look like there’s anyone else to be arrested right now.”
