Janis Amelia Rivenburgh Sledge Freer

WASSAIC — Janis Amelia Rivenburgh Sledge Freer, 80, a longtime resident of Wassaic, died on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at New Milford Hospital in New Milford. Mrs. Freer proudly served as a Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force for 21 years, retiring in 1993.Born on Feb. 27, 1933, in Sharon, she was the daughter of the late Murray E. and Margaret Markert Rivenburgh. She was previously married to the late Jerry W. Sledge. On Sept. 22, 1992, at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, she married James F. Freer, who survives at home. Mrs. Freer was a charter member of the Women in Military Service Association and a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association. She was member of the American Legion Post #1949 in Wingdale, N.Y., and a longtime member of the Amenia United Presbyterian Church in Amenia. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, David W. Sledge and his wife, Lori, of Spotsylvania, Va.; two daughters, Kathryn S. Mosely and her husband, Robert, of Spring, Texas, and Faith K. Fails of Sharon; and three sisters, Margaret Y. Deister of Wassaic, Evelyn Handke of Wassaic, and Phyllis Quinones of Lynchburg, Va. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Christina Leone and her husband, Phillip, Jason and Elizabeth Mosley and Joshua and Walker Sledge. Calling hours were held on Feb. 10 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, Dover Plains. Funeral services took place on Feb. 11 at the Amenia United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jan Brooks officiating. Burial with full military honors followed at South Amenia Cemetery in South Amenia.Arrangements are under the direction of Hufcut Funeral Home. Telecom Reg’s Best Kept On the Books

When Connecticut land-use commissions update their regulations, it seems like a no-brainer to jettison old telecommunications regulations adopted decades ago during a short-lived period when municipalities had authority to regulate second generation (2G) transmissions prior to the Connecticut Siting Council (CSC) being ordered by a state court in 2000 to regulate all cell tower infrastructure as “functionally equivalent” services.

It is far better to update those regs instead, especially for macro-towers given new technologies like small cells. Even though only ‘advisory’ to the CSC, the preferences of towns by law must be taken into consideration in CSC decision making. Detailed telecom regs – not just a general wish list -- are evidence that a town has put considerable thought into where they prefer such infrastructure be sited without prohibiting service that many – though not all – citizens want and that first responders rely on for public safety.

Moses A. Maillet, Sr.

AMENIA — Moses A. “Tony” Maillet, Sr., 78, a longtime resident of Amenia, New York, passed away on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. Tony owned and operated T & M Lawn and Landscaping in Amenia.

Born on March 9, 1947, in St. Alphonse de Clare, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Leonard and Cora (Poirier) Maillet. Tony proudly served in the US Army during Vietnam as a heavy equipment operator. On May 12, 1996, in Amenia, he married Mary C. Carberry who survives at home.
