NORTH EAST — John E. Young, 77, of New York City and Boston Corners died peacefully at home on April 1, 2013, of complications from Parkinson’s disease. Longtime weekenders in the region, John and his wife of 46 years, Mary (Nason) Young, first spent time in Sharon and since 1975 have lived in a converted church in Boston Corners.John was born July 11, 1935, in Tulsa, Okla., to Frances and Russell E. Young and grew up in Casper, Wyo., where he graduated from Natrona County High School. He was a 1956 graduate of the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) and a 1959 graduate magna cum laude from Harvard Law School where he was on the Law Review. Following law school, John spent the year traveling the world on a prestigious Sheldon Traveling Fellowship from Harvard. Upon his return he joined the Cravath, Swaine & Moore law firm in New York City, where he became a partner in January 1968. John spent his time reading avidly and widely. He loved watching the paragliders take off from the top of Brace Mountain and turning on the radio to high volume on WMHT. John enjoyed walking with neighbors and friends in the area along the railroad tracks and later the Rail Trail, down Undermountain Road, when it was a dirt road and quietly up to Bishop’s Pond, which his daughters nicknamed Swan Lake. He looked forward to the Sunday morning cigar, gossip and newspaper run to Terni’s in Millerton. He worried about the maple trees and planted apple trees. Most of all John liked to be with his daughters and their families who now share a house together, also on Boston Corners Road. In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Young, and her husband, George Eberstadt and their daughters, Esme and Maya; his daughter, Abigail Young, and her husband, Jonathan Moses, and their daughters, Charlotte and Eleanor; and his sister-in-law, Joan Nason.A memorial service was held April 9 at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City.Donations in his memory may be made to the NorthEastMillerton Library. The Frank E.
