NORTH CANAAN — Joseph E. Miner, 100, of Colchester and formerly of North Canaan, widower of Jean (Jablonski) Miner, passed away Dec. 14, 2012, at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.Born Aug. 2, 1912, in New London, he was a son of the late Amy (Dart) and Joseph Miner.On Oct. 7, 1939, he and Jean were married in New London and shared 67 years of marriage before she predeceased him on July 28, 2006.Mr. Miner was an engineering supervisor for Connecticut Light & Power for 40 years before his retirement in 1975.He attended the First Congregational Church of New London and Pilgrim Church in North Canaan. Mr. Miner was a member of Seneca Lodge 55 A.F. & A.M. in Torrington.In his spare time, he loved to golf, fish, garden and feed the birds. He will be greatly missed.He is survived by two children, Diana and her husband, John H. Matheson, of Colchester and Joseph E. Miner of Watertown, Mass.; a grandson, John H. Matheson Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Colchester and his children, Paige and Jack; and numerous extended family and friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother and three sisters.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.Care of private arrangements has been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.

SHARON — The 12-month trailing median price for a single-family home, excluding condos, in Sharon increased to $720,000 for the period ending Feb. 28, 2026.

The figure marks a 36% increase from the $530,000 median recorded for the 12 months ending Feb. 28, 2025, and 14% from $655,000 for the comparable period ending Feb. 28, 2024.

SHARON — Two longtime municipal employees will retire at the end of June, bringing more than six decades of combined experience at Town Hall to a close.

Stanley MacMillan Jr. and Jamie Casey submitted resignation letters that were read by First Selectman Casey Flanagan at the Board of Selectmen’s regular meeting on March 10. Both will step down effective June 30.

North Canaan smoke shop owner arrested on drug charges

NORTH CANAAN — The owner of the smoke shop Smoker’s Choice was arrested on March 11 for allegedly selling recreational marijuana products without a license from his East Main Street store.

Town Resident Trooper Spencer Bronson, who coordinated the enforcement effort, shared an official Facebook post on March 14 announcing that Mohammad Rahman, 47, of Litchfield had been taken into custody.
