Katherine (Gillett) McClintock

NORFOLK — Katherine (Gillett) McClintock, 93, died on Feb. 9, 2015.

She spent her childhood in Pelham Manor, N.Y. After her marriage to Brower McClintock in 1943, they made their home in Bronxville, N.Y. They retired to her family’s longtime summer home in Norfolk. In 1993, they moved to Ashlar Village in Wallingford, Conn., where they spent the remainder of their years.

She was educated at Pelham Day School, Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield, Mass. (class of 1939), and Smith College, Northampton, Mass. (class of 1943).

Her volunteer activities in Bronxville included the Junior League, the Nondescript Club, the Bronxville School PTA, the Boy Scouts of America and the Reformed Church.

In Norfolk, she was a member of, and volunteered for, the Norfolk Library Associates, the Litchfield County University Club, the Norfolk Church of Christ Congregational, the Norfolk-Colebrook Garden Club, the Doolittle Lake Club Board and the Norfolk Community Association.

While living in Wallingford, she was a member of the First Congregational Church, where she served as a deacon.

She and Brower enjoyed traveling, with the greatest affinity for small-ship cruises. She also loved gardening, doing needlework, playing tennis and golf, and avidly following the Boston Red Sox.

But her family was most important to her. She, her smile and her great wit will be missed by the entire family, and by many friends, especially those she made while living at Ashlar Village.

She is survived by three children, Brower McClintock Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Whitehall, Pa., Martha McClintock Sippel of Annapolis, Md., and Kendall Gillett McClintock and his wife, Ann, of Ludlow, Mass.; six grandchildren, David McClintock, Leigh Yocum  and her husband, Bill, Emily Sippel, Jonathan Sippel and his wife, Karen, Evan Sippel and Jessica McClintock; three great-grandchildren, Anastasia Yocum, Kaleigh Yocum and Oliver Sippel; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Brower; her parents, Ezra Kendall and Isabel (Goodnow) Gillett; and her siblings, E. Kendall Gillett Jr., Elizabeth (Gillett) Day and Frank Goodnow Gillett.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to  the Norfolk Library, PO Box 605, Norfolk, CT 06058.

A celebration of Katherine’s life will be held in the Hartog Auditorium at Ashlar Village on March 28 at 1 p.m.

Arrangements are under the care of the Kenny Funeral Home (www.kennyfuneralhomes.com).

KENT– A year-and-a-half-long legal dispute over an unpermitted roadway and dock built through wetlands on North Spectacle Pond is approaching a resolution. The KenMont and KenWood summer camp and the town’s Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission are close to reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.

The conflict began after the IWWC denied the camp’s retroactive application in March 2024 for the road and dock, which were constructed without town approval sometime last decade. The Commission found both structures violated town regulations, leading the camp to file a legal appeal.
