The applicant proposes to treat 34 acres of Twin Island Lake with aquatic pesticides to control milfoil and pondweed. Treatment is within NYS Freshwater Wetland PP-5, Class II and it’s state regulated 100 foot adjacent area.

HAUL AWAY OF VILLAGE CURBSIDE BRUSH, LEAVES, AND YARD WASTE

The Village is seeking a proposal to haul away and reuse or dispose of the Village’s accumulated curbside brush, leaves, and yard waste. Individuals or businesses who will reuse these accumulated materials in an environmentally friendly manner such as by composting are preferred.

Elm Avenue., Millerton, New York to hear all interested persons regarding Local Law “C” of 2022 entitled “A Local Law to Add a New Section to the Code to be Designated as Section 162-34 entitled ‘Penalty for Failure to Allow Access to Premises to Install, Connect, Inspect, Maintain, Repair, Alter, or Disconnect a Water Meter’

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing will be held before the Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town of North East, Dutchess County, New York, on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 7:30 PM, or soon thereafter as possible, in the Town Hall, 19 North Maple Avenue, Millerton, New York, on the application of Peter Clair for a reduction in the required side yard in order to add a rear deck to an existing residence, located at 5644 Route 22, tax parcel #7170-00-735431, in the R3A Zoning District of the Town of North East.

NORTH CANAAN — Steve Blass Little League AAA baseball opened the 2024 season on Saturday, April 27, with an afternoon match between the Giants and Red Sox.

The Giants stood tall and came out on top with a 15-7 win over their Region One counterparts, the Red Sox. Steve Blass AAA teams are composed of players aged 9 to 11 from Cornwall, Kent, Falls Village, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury and Sharon.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

Oscar Lock, a Hotchkiss senior, got pointers and encouragement from Tim Hunter, stewardship director of The Sharon Land Trust, while sawing buckthorn.

It was a ramble through bramble on Wednesday, April 17 as a handful of Hotchkiss students armed with loppers attacked a thicket of buckthorn and bittersweet at the Sharon Land Trust’s Hamlin Preserve.

The students learned about the destructive impact of invasives as they trudged — often bent over — across wet ground on the semblance of a trail, led by Tom Zetterstrom, a North Canaan tree preservationist and member of the Sharon Land Trust.
