A vote for Lisa Cope

I believe many readers of this periodical will agree how refreshing it is to meet someone who not only likes their job but is good at it as well. I speak of Lisa Cope who is running for another term as town clerk.

I seldom tout any individual up for election but Lisa does deserve consideration.  She is not only dedicated to her position but community minded as well, frequently serving as a volunteer within our community.

We’ve been blessed to have two highly qualified candidates running for town clerk. The town wins either way but I’m of the opinion Lisa has done a good job and has earned the right to keep her position.

Regardless of whom you support, please get out and exercise your right to vote.

Hear candidates in Millerton

Hear in person from the candidates running for election this November. They’ll be available at the NorthEast-Millerton Library Annex on Thursday, Oct. 24, starting at 7 p.m. Listen to them speak about themselves and their ideas; ask about what matters to you.

The evening is sponsored both by the Democratic and Republican Committees of the Town of North East.

For North East Town Board supervisor, Town Councilman Chris Kennan is running unopposed. For the two open board seats are three candidates: John Midwood (incumbent), Rob Cooper and Lana Morrison. For North East town clerk, the incumbent Lisa Cope is running for a third term. Her opponent is Gail Wheeler.

For representative to the Dutchess County Legislature (District 19) is a rematch: incumbent Gregg Pulver against Dick Hermans.

This meeting is open and free to the public. The Annex is located at 28 Century Blvd.

Morrison is a strong candidate

I have been asked by a number of people why I have a campaign sign for Lana Morrison in front of my house on Undermountain Road in Salisbury. People who know me are even more surprised because I am active in Democratic politics in Connecticut. I offered a spot on my lawn to Lana because I think that Lana will do a great job for the North East Town Board.

I have known Lana for at least 20 years, first in her capacity as a banking officer. She always provided sound, thoughtful, advice and was very professional in our dealings. In my most recent experiences with Lana, I have gotten to see more of her character, her honesty and how she interacts with others when she is under stress. We play golf together and that is where your true colors are revealed. They often say that you don’t know a person’s true character until you play golf with them. In my book, Lana passes that test with flying colors.

If I were able to cast a vote for Town Board in North East, my vote would be for Lana Morrison.

Lana Morrison gets my vote

As long as I’ve known Lana Morrison, she’s always had a smile. She’s always been willing to listen and express concern, and possibly a solution, when needed.

All of that is evident in Lana’s commitment to Women’s Support Services for over six years. It’s evident in her many years working with our local Lions Clubs in Sharon and Millerton. She is kind, but firm, and loves helping. She’s a life-long resident of Millerton, having grown up on her parent’s farm on Silver Mountain, and still resides near her childhood home.

Lana is retired from Salisbury Bank and Trust as vice president and branch manager in Millerton. Because she’s worked so closely with so many for so long, she’s witnessed lots of changes in the town, from the decline of family farms to the community’s struggle to become more economically diverse.

I believe Lana has her pulse on the needs of the town, and I believe she would make an excellent councilperson on the North East Town Board. I urge you to vote for Lana on Nov. 5.

Endorsement for Wheeler

I am writing to encourage the voters in the town of North East to cast their vote for Gail Wheeler for town clerk.

I have known Gail for over 10 years. We met when I was Scoutmaster for Troop 29 and her son joined our troop. Gail often volunteered to research information about possible troop outings and she helped behind the scenes to assist with ceremonies. I found her to be extremely thorough and detail oriented. She supplied me with all the information we needed to execute/plan successful troop events.

Gail has an excellent work ethic and always presents herself in a professional manner. She will execute the office of town clerk with diligence.

John Midwood clear choice

In this year’s election, we have a choice of three very good candidates to serve on our North East Town Board. John Midwood is the clear choice as the one we need to continue on our Town Board.

John has proven in his first four years that he takes on needed projects and sees them through to completion.

John Midwood has served our Town Board well and deserves another term to continue his good work.
