Marvelwood falls to No. 1 Watkinson

KENT — The eighth-seeded Marvelwood School boys varsity soccer team came close to defeating Watkinson School, seeded first, last Wednesday, Nov. 17, during the quarterfinal round of the New England Class D tournament, which was held at the turf field at the University of Hartford.

The first goal of the game was scored in the 25th minute of the first half by Marvelwood’s Adam Ehrman-Shapiro, and the team held a lead for 12 minutes until Watkinson scored to tie it up.

The Marvelwood team was weakened in the second half by the loss of a player due to a red card. The players held off their opponents from scoring another goal until the 86th minute. This goal was immediately followed by another, bringing the score to 3-1, where it stayed until the end.

Coach Glenn Sanchez pointed out that many of the players, such as MVP Toby Albert-Faluyi, goalie Kevin Bogucki, sweeper Woody Diallo, marking defender Jin Woo Yeam and flank backs Luis Valoski and Paul Sarris, played brilliantly during the game.

“I tip my hat to my players as they nearly pulled off a stunning upset, said Sanchez.
