Mary M. (Smith) Anderson

MILLERTON — Mary M. (Smith) Anderson of Millerton and Dunkirk, N.Y., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 20, 2017, at the age of 86.

Mary was born on July 4, 1930, in Newburgh, N.Y. to the late Mary and Misner Smith. 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Anderson, after 45 years of marriage. 

A longtime resident of Dunkirk, Mary was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church. She served as church treasurer for 38 years, Sunday school superintendent and teacher and as a deacon in addition to many other roles.

Mary loved spending time with her family, chatting with friends, laughing, cooking, gardening, playing cards, and she always wore a smile. She was a loving and caring person, a devoted wife, mother and friend who always thought of others first.

She is survived by her two children, Stephen Anderson and his wife, Stephanie, of San Antonio, Texas, and Molly Jenks and her husband, Bob, of Millerton; and four grandchildren, Jenna and Riley Anderson and Emma and Kelsey Jenks.

Funeral services and burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Fredonia, N.Y., in the spring. A private memorial gathering will be held in Millerton at a later date. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church, 19 W. 4th St., Dunkirk, NY 14048; or Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels, 200 Lake Shore Drive West, Suite 3, Dunkirk, NY 14048. 

Arrangements are under the direction of the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home in Millerton.

Running from Sept. 26 to Oct. 5, “The Mousetrap” marks another milestone for the award-winning regional theater, bringing together an ensemble of exceptional local talent under the direction of Broadway’s Hunter Foster, who also directed last season’s production of “Rock of Ages." With a career that spans stage and screen, Foster brings a fresh and suspense-filled staging to Christie’s classic.

Plein Air Litchfield returns for a week of art in the open air

For six days this autumn, Litchfield will welcome 33 acclaimed painters for the second year of Plein Air Litchfield (PAL), an arts festival produced by Art Tripping, a Litchfield nonprofit.

The public is invited to watch the artists at work while enjoying the beauty of early fall. The new Belden House & Mews hotel at 31 North St. in Litchfield will host PAL this year.
