Millbrook Antique Center has new owner

MILLBROOK — For the third time in 30 years, the Millbrook Antiques Center (MAC) has changed ownership. From the 1980s through the 1990s, the shop on Franklin Avenue next to the Millbrook Deli was owned by Malcolm Makatoff. In 2002, he sold the shop to Yael Sinrod and moved to Florida. She sold MAC last July to Tom McGeady and is still active in the shop as a dealer in coins, jewelry and gold. For McGeady, ownership of MAC is the culmination of a second career which started in the late 1980s when he bought a 100-year-old New York City police baton and fell in love with the antiques business. Before that, he worked for 28 years as a stock broker on Wall Street.Born and brought up in the Bronx, McGeady moved to Carmel in 2010 and was a regular dealer at the Patterson Flea Market on Route 22 for four years. He was also a dealer in MAC before purchasing the store.“I’ve always had a deep interest in American history,” McGeady declared, “especially the Civil War era and World War II era.” He added that working with antiques has enlivened this interest.“We’ve added several excellent dealers to the store in the last few months,” he said. “They’ve provided quality antiques and collectibles and are constantly bringing in fresh items.”The new MAC dealers have added military memorabilia and uniforms, paintings, baseball and football cards, additional furniture items as well as additional jewelry, books, records, toys and advertising items.McGeady’s dealers are from neighboring communities such as Patterson, Holmes, Pleasant Valley, Millbrook, Carmel, Putnam Valley, Stanfordville, Poughquag, Poughkeepsie, Montgomery, Parkville, Ossining and Lagrangeville and Cornwall Bridge, Canaan and Bethel, Conn. The future is bright for MAC, according to McGeady, because “we love the village of Millbrook and are looking forward to providing the people of the area with quality antiques in an unpretentious atmosphere.”The Millbrook Antiques Center is located at 3283 Franklin Ave. The telephone number is 845-677-3921 and the website address is www.millbrookantiquescenter.com.
